Hello Again

We have been getting a long nicely with members playing spider solitaire, with Syd trying to beat the ladies scores. So far he hasn't managed it. The ladies are winning. Although we are pleased to have Heidi and Syd with us, it's because Heidi has had her hospital appointment post-poned for two weeks, so we are hoping she gets the call for this Wednesday. We wish her well.

We have photo's of three members, one of which seems to look rather strange. But he has been with us for a while now and we seem to be getting used to him. It has been hard work, but he does makes a lovely cup of tea, so we feel we ought to let him stay.

Sorry We Have Been Away

If you have been wondering where we have got to, then I shall explain. We arrived one day for our usual group club, and found that we had no internet connection. We found this very inconvienant, and it was because someone hadn't paid the bill. This had been going on for a few weeks when suddenly we arrived one day and found that we had been reconnected. We are all very pleased, and keeping our fingers crossed that it will stay this way.
Several of our members recently went on an outing with other residents from Sellwood Gardens. At first they thought it was a mystery trip as they travelled around the fens. Places such as New York, Midville, Spilsby, Toynton all Saints, Boston and a few others, which they can't seem to remember. I think it was the shock of Syd being so quiet on the coach. It was so quiet, they thought that they had left him behind. But I think he made up for it over lunch. This was at The Bull Donnington, they were there for two and a half hours. The meal was very good and the coach driver gave a running comentry throughout the trip. Everyone said they had a lovely day.

We are still without Bren. We understand that she has had an operation and is still in hospital, so we wish her a speedy recovery, and hope she will be back soon. Joyce two has had an operation on her other hand, and is doing well. Heidi is going into hospital on Nov. 11th, to seek treatment on her knee. At this time she is not sure whether she will be having the knee cleaned or whether she will have to have a knee re-placement. Our thoughts are with both Heide and Syd at this worrying time. I (Ann), am doing my best to lose weight after having lapband surgery last December. Throughout the year I have been struggling to do this and getting my portion sizes about right. I have been trying to get to a target that I set myself, for several weeks, and I was beginning to think it wasn't going to happen. Well I am delighted to tell you that I got there last Tuesday 27th October. I was so pleased I wanted to shout from the roof tops. Getting to this target has given me the energy to try harder, and I shall be setting myself another target to achieve.
Now that summer has passed, we are not looking forward to the winter months. So we all hope that we have a mild one, so that we are all able to get about, doing the things that we need to do.

Further Information

Joyce two is having minor surgery on her left hand today. We wish her well and hope that she will be able to join us next Wednesday.

We also send our best wishes to Bren, as she is now in Hospital at The Queens, in Nottingham. We hear that she has had an operation, so we hope she will get well soon and that it won't be long before we see her again.

Heidi and Syd are back.

We are pleased to have Heidi and Syd back from their holiday in Scotland. From the chatting that we are hearing today, they have had a lovely time. Syd did all the driving which was over 1,000 miles. They visited the Isle of Bute, Eyemouth, Moffat, Glasgow, Ayre and quite a few other places. On the way home they visited friends at Barnsley, as their Lhaser Apso dog had five puppies.

Holiday Snaps.

These are a few of the snaps that Jimmy and I took when we were in Great Yarmouth last week. Not many people on the beach, Jimmy and scruffy enjoying the lovely sunshine that we were lucky to enjoy. The big wheel which I have been on twice, and it's a lovely ride. A picture of Wellington Pier taken while I was on the big wheel.

After the holidays.

Jimmy and I were in Great Yarmouth last week, with our little dog scruffy. We had a great holiday, and the weather was wonderful, which is unusual for this time of the year. Our caravan was a bit of a dissappointment this time, but we managed the best we could. It didn't really matter as we went out every day.

Joyce 2 went to Llandudno for her holiday last week, and she has said she had a nice time. Joyce also had some lovely weather.

As I write, Heidi and Syd are up in Scotland for their holiday, and do you know Syd, while you are away, you can hear a pin drop while we are on our computers.

Thankyou Ifor

Our heartfelt thanks go to Ifor, who came for a visit on Friday 18th September. We were able to pick his brains for more information to enable us to use our computers more. We were all happy to see him again, and I understand that Heidi and Syd gave him some refreshments before taking him back to his boat. Thank you Ifor, and we hope to see you again very soon.

Holiday Updates

Well we are still lucky enough to have some fine weather, even though a bit blustery. Ron and June had a lovely time in Skegness. June said she enjoyed it so much, she didn't want to come home. Joyce has been to Norfolk, and she said her holiday was good in parts. Too much sitting I think, which brings on some ailments. There are still some of us waiting to go. Our other member Joyce is off next week to Llandudno, and Jimmy and I are going to Great Yarmouth. Then the following week Syd and Heidi are off to Scotland. That will mean a lovely quiet and peaceful two weeks! Sorry Syd.

We are sorry to hear that Bren is in hospital. At first we heard that she was in Lincoln after visiting her daughter, and unable to get out of her car. Tony gave her a call this morning and we hear that she is in Boston Pilgrim Hospital. So we wish her a speedy recovery, and that she will be back with us very soon.

On Friday the 18th September, we are looking forward to having our friend Ifor for a visit. I'm sure he will no doubt go back home with a terrible headache, as we have so many questions to ask him. We all love having him here, and really miss him.

Summer Holidays

Is that a very apt title? I'm not too sure. We were told earlier in the year that we were in for a Bar-B-Cue summer. It hasn't happened. We have had some sunny days, but not when we need it most, like bank holiday weekend. This was the last bank holiday before Christmas, and I believe a lot of people were hoping for a hot sunny weekend. The traffic was busy and some of our members did manage to get away. Heidi and Syd went off in their campervan to the Wisbech area. They have said they had a lovely time, which gave them the chance to unwide and recharge their batteries. Heidi said it was very quiet and peaceful. Ron and June have gone to a hotel in Skegness for the week. So we hope they are having a lovely time their. We await their return for an update. As the summer comes to a close, several other members will be going on holiday during September. So we wish them all happy holidays and hope they all have some decent weather and not too much rain.

We would all like to wish Heidi a very happy birthday, and thank her and Marlene for providing us with a few refreshments.
From Ann.

Who's Eating Chocolate?

A Wonderful Day Out

Our friend Ifor has a canal boat. This week he was moored along side the Pyewipe at Lincoln. So nearly all the club members decided to pay him a visit. On Wednesday we all travelled by car with drivers, Syd Jimmy, Bren and Joyce 1. Somehow Joyce managed to get lost by missing the turning to the pub. This is easily done as the sign is situated only on one side of the road.

On arrival we all sat outside in the wonderful sunshine chatting with Ifor, and having a drink. We then decided to have our meal first, and then Ifor was going to take anyone who wanted, for a ride on the boat up to Saxilby. Fourteen of us were seated together, and most decided to have gammon, a couple had steak and one had chicken. Then we had to decide whether we should have a sweet. A few had ice cream and one had chocolate brownie with ice cream and chantilly cream, see photo.

Once we were fed, we then went over to Ifor's boat, the Abigail Jenna, to see who wanted to go. As I am disabled I decided to find out whether I could get onto the boat. To my amazement I could. I was joined by Heidi, Joyce 2 June and Tony. Once we set off Heidi made us a cup of tea. Tony was at the helm and the ladies sat at the bow having a natter. The journey lasted one and a half hours and was very enjoyable. Unfortunately we didn't see the wildlife that Ifor has seen on his journey's. Jimmy and Syd were waiting for us at the other end, Saxilby. When we got back on land and had a few more words, we then said our goodbyes to Ifor and set off for home.

At our meeting today, we have been looking at the photo's that Tony had taken, and a few comments were made about our meal at the Pyewype. But everyone decided that we had a wonderful day out for our special occasion, with grateful thanks to Ifor, for everything he has done for the club, the trip on the boat, with possibly more to come and more importantly his friendship that he has for us all. Thankyou Ifor.

An Addition

I started to add a message, but for some reason I lost it, so now I am trying again.

Last week our grandaughter, Shar'le came to stay with us. Jimmy and I at first were rather apprehensive, as we had never had her to stay before. Shar'le is a typical 8 year old and enjoys most things. We thought she would be a chatterbox and talk us to death, but she didn't. The one thing she enjoyed most, was collecting seashells from Mablethorpe beach, and that dosen't cost anything. We tried to keep her ammused all week. We did succeed, and the words "I'm bored" were heard only once. So I think she could possibly be coming again. Ann.

New EDITOR Marlene

I have not used my car for a few months so I was a bit worrid about the MOT but it passed with flying colours so YIPEE.
This is Joyce2 having a bit of an input.

wednesday 5th august 2009

We as always had a good meeting we did'nt have Tony guess he had family commitment Ann helpt Ted our new commer to set up a googlemail she was a bit bother if she was able to do it and
did very well. We also had Ann& Jimmys Grandaughter come, she showed us a few thing we did'nt have a clue about but that only shows you the things the young once are able to do on the computer I don't think "I" will ever get to their stage still we do enjoy what we can do so far.
I wish that learning direct would come up with some programs for the over 60th 70th and 80th
that have no need going through programs that needs to have a learning program that at the end of it to applay for a job, yes we all like to learn how to get to email and a lot of our members like to compete against one another this I think is a good stimulation at our age, the good thing all round is we all enjoy it.

Wednesday, 29 July 2009

the friday meeting

As Ann has allready said we are being told by the powers of bee to be carefull if we think we have got this sweinflu but here we go again 2years ago it was poultryflu and we came through it
is it to frighten us half to death or is it to cover a lot of other problems up after all the country
can't shut down altogether.
Well even so today we had a lovely meeting again and I do think if we are all senseble about it
we will over come this again.
How often when I go into a toilet in the supermarket you hear so many go from the loo and strait out without washing there hands to me this is the most importend job one does is to wash once
hands.
We are hopeing to plan a day out and have a good old natter without having to think about computing even so we do all like what we do whatever we do.
The Summertime will be quieter as we all have plans for Holidays and sofor this is it from me for today ann will send other write ups as the same will I.
I will have to give the Chairman a push for him to do his bit one day

Precautions From Ann

Having been on holiday and having a wonderful time, I missed some important information.

Due to the increase in numbers of people with Swine Flu, a directive was issued, that our meetings in the community centre should be curtailed, to prevent further people being infected. This was seen as being a bit drastic and another letter arrived to cancel that directive. It was decided that anyone who has any symptoms, should please stay at home. So here's hoping that we all stay well and safe from this particular Flu.

Our friend Ifor, is having an awful lot of problems at the moment. As I write he is having the engine of his narrow boat Abigail Jenna, looked at, and from all accounts it could be a major task. Also it appears that canals aren't exempt from theives, as Ifor has had his Motorbike and his bicycle stolen from the boat.

Friday, 3 July 2009

a very nice day was had by all the members that came to the Friday meeting some trying hard to compete against one and other to get the best result on the spider solitare game. The meetings are always a very social one this is what most of us at our age want in live
Well! If anyone would like to meet most of the members of the club here we are.

We are at long last got the writing on the blog sorted thanks to clever Ann and some help from Ifor. There will be lots of things we want to tell you what we are up to.

If you are aware that we are slow at keeping up to date on the Blog, you might be surprised to learn that we are still learning as to how we apply a message.
So here goes
At Sellwood Gardens a trip to Whisby Nature Park was enjoyed by tennants and some of our members went along as well. The weather was perfect and there was plenty to see.
Having lunch in the cafe' overlooking the lake and later enjoying an ice cream.
